Brief History and progress of St.Ursula Hr.Pry.School.

The school bears the name of St. Ursula because it was founded and run by the Ursuline Congregation till 1982. The Ursuline Franciscan Congregation was founded by Rev. Fr. Urban stein (S.J) in 1887, the then parish priest of Rosario cathedral. Realizing the need of the community especially the poor and the neglected, the first Superior General of Ursuline Congregation, Mother Nympha Fernandez along with other members of the company started to educate the poor of the locality in local language Kannada in 1902 and became a full pledged Kannada medium Primary school in 1927. At the time of Mother Martha Saldhana the third Superior General of the Company.

In the year 1974 St Ursula School was handed over to the Catholic Board Of Education Mangalore. But up to 2001 the Corespondent of the school was the Ursuline sisters.
As a number of students joining the Kannada medium school was declining day by day. To maintain the number of students in the school, the Rosario Kannada medium school was merged to the St. Ursula’s school and was shifted to Rosario campus on 2nd July 2001. The Ursuline sisters handed over the charge of correspondence of the school to Fr. Cyprian Coelho, the then Parish priest of the cathedral.

Presently we have 233 students with six staff members. We cater to the needs of the poor students by giving them books, uniform and conveyance facility to come to school. We have introduced computer education from fifth standard to make them computer literates in the computer world. Along with the curricular activities we also conduct extra-curricular activities like sports, games, drawing, singing, fancy dress, acting etc.

As an ongoing part of the learning, teachers avail themselves to various courses conducted by the board of education and others. With blessings of the almighty God and our patroness, St. Ursula, we wish to reach out to many more poor and needy students
