The feast of the BVM was celebrated on September 8th at Rosario Cathedral. The feast began with procession from Cascia High school. During the procession St Joachim and Anna were presented through a tableau depicting the parents of Mary.  The statue of Maria Babina was carried in the truck adored with little children.  The Gurkars carried blessed corns and later they offered the same at the Altar during the offertory procession. The children offered flowers to Maria Babina at the front of the grotto.

Msgr Denis Moras Prahbu the Vicar General of the diocese was the main celebrant. During the homily he explained the meaning and the origin of the feast and how it is closely connected to the traditions of the Konkani speaking Catholics of Mangalore. He said today the feast is celebrated   by the Mangaloreans spread all over the world.

Prior to the feast nine days Novena was conducted in the Church. Each day celebrations were presided by the various priests of the town. They preached various themes during the Novena days. Sweets were distributed to the children on Novena days and Sugarcane on feast day.

 

 

 

 

 


In view of the feast the members of the Vincent Paul de Society distributed rice and vegetable to 30 needy families of the parish irrespective of cast creed.

Fr J. B. Crasta, Fr Amith Rodrigus, Fr Alwyn Serrao and Fr Rocky Fernandes concelebrated the Mass. A large number of parishioners were present for the celebration.
